When the expat dream turns into a career challenge [The Culture Guy Podcast]

In the past few weeks we have been posting several useful articles on our Facebook Page about life abroad, the challenges of expatriation, raising children overseas with two languages, and repatriating back home after having lived abroad for years. So it is time we let someone who has been through all of these stages share her story.

Meet Germany-native Tina Busch, Ph.D. – a linguist, a translator, a blogger, and an expat mom – who talks about her experience of pausing a career for her husband’s foreign assignment. While the number of female working expats has been rising quickly in the past 10-15 years, men still are the majority of professionals who are offered foreign positions.

When Tina learned that her husband had an opportunity to work in the United States, she first saw it as one of her family’s dreams coming true. After the move to Tennessee and the initial settling-in period, Tina was looking for new goals, a new purpose.

On this episode she shares what it means to find your place as a so-called “trailing spouse” and how it isn’t a given to pause a career and reboot your life.
For Tina Busch her blog became one outlet. Make sure you visit it.
